Schulman, who has held the post since April 2015, is moving into a new corporate role.

Sam Brown has been named head of production for STX Entertainment’s motion picture group and will succeed Cathy Schulman in that role. Schulman, the Oscar-winning producer of Crash, joined STX in April 2015.

In announcing the moves, the company said Schulman will take on a new corporate role at STX, overseeing the launch of a new initiative, which it is not disclosing at this time.

Brown, who will be overseeing production and development activities on STX's upcoming film slate, was most recently a senior vp of production at New Line Cinema. He will report to Adam Fogelson, chairman of the STX Entertainment Group, who announced the appointment on Tuesday, and Oren Aviv, president and chief content officer of the motion picture group.

At New Line, Brown, who was part of The Hollywood Reporter's Next Gen class of 2009, worked on such films as Central Intelligence, San Andreas, Horrible Bosses and the Harold and Kumar series, as well as the upcoming Fist Fight, starring Ice Cube and Charlie Day, and Going in Style, with Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin.

"Sam has a long and exceptional track record identifying and managing the diverse kinds of hit, talent-driven films that are the core of the STX model," Fogelson and Aviv said in a joint statement. "He is one of the best and brightest in our business who is hugely admired and respected by the creative community."
