Sandra Bullock to receive SBIFF honor

Santa Barbara fest awards her with American Riviera Award

Sandra Bullock, who is enjoying a career resurgence with the success of "The Proposal" and "The Blind Side," will be honored with the Santa Barbara International Film Festival's American Riviera Award, which will be presented to her on Feb. 5 at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara.

The award recognizes "an actor who has had a strong influence on American cinema."

Bullock, whose early work included "Demolition Man," "Speed" and "While You Were Sleeping," has appeared in such films as "Crash," "The Lake House" and "Infamous." "The Blind Side" is shaping up as one of the biggest films of her career, following her summer hit "The Proposal."

"Bullock's career-capping performance in 'The Blind Side' encompasses everything we have loved about her since the early '90s, from the deft physical comedy in 'While You Were Sleeping' to the mettle of her role in the Academy Award-winning 'Crash,' " said SBIFF exec director Roger Durling.

The SBIFF runs Feb. 4-14.
