The Santa Barbara International Film Festival will present James Franco with its outstanding performance of the year award for his starring role as a trapped hiker in Fox Searchlight’s 127 Hours.

The presentation will take place Jan. 29 at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara.

In announcing the honor, SBIFF exec director Roger Durling called Franco “truly an exceptional actor who embraces the character and lives the story to tell it.”

The actor, who has also appeared on screen this year in Howl and Eat Pray Love, next appears in the upcoming films Your Highness and Caesar: Rise of the Apes.

The festival itself runs from Jan. 27-Feb. 6.
