Santa Barbara fest to honor Tarantino

Will be given excellence award in film on Oct. 22

Quentin Tarantino will be honored with the Santa Barbara International Film Festival's fourth annual Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film at a black-tie dinner at the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara on Oct. 22.

Douglas will present the award.

SBIFF executive director Roger Durling said, "[He] has forever changed the direction of American cinema."

Tarantino, who received an Oscar for the "Pulp Fiction" screenplay, which he wrote with Roger Avary, just released his latest film, "Inglourious Basterds."

The 25th annual SBIFF will run from Feb. 4-14.
