Saoirse Ronan on How Fashion and Clothing Can Affect Confidence

"I don’t think clothing needs to make a political statement. I think clothing is about a business, it’s about feeling confident, it’s about giving you power," Saltzman told THR.

Right off the bat, it’s easy to see that actress Saoirse Ronan and stylist Elizabeth Saltzman have a special bond. While talking about her stylist, Ronan speaks of her more as a friend, saying, “E can always tell when I love something because I’ll stand up in it in a certain way and I think I sort of naturally know how to move in an outfit when it’s something I like.”

Feeling confident in what you’re wearing seems to be the big motivator when it comes to fashion for Ronan and Saltzman. “I’ve always liked clothes, but I didn’t realize how much of an effect it could have on your confidence,” the actress told The Hollywood Reporter for its 2018 Power Stylists issue. “There’s other friends of mine where they sort of transform in their look, but I think that’s the thing about feminism is that it isn’t just one thing and it’s different for everyone.”

Ronan and Saltzman also spoke about the parallels between fashion and feminism. For the stylist, fashion is all about giving you the power to feel strong.

“It’s just how you feel and what you believe in and what you believe in is what you believe in – that doesn’t have to be about your clothing,” Saltzman said. “I don’t think clothing needs to make a political statement. I think clothing is about a business, it’s about feeling confident, it’s about giving you power.”

For Ronan, colors can play a huge part in letting her confidence shine through.

“I find even when I’m just at home, there’s certain colors I’m drawn to on certain days and that will bring a certain thing out in me on any given day,” she told THR. “If it something that’s important to you, it can sort of influence how confident you are in yourself too.”
