The bold eye was so very SJP.

Some thought Sarah Jessica Parker was channeling Carrie Bradshaw in her Monse look at the Met Gala in New York City on Monday; some thought the musical Hamilton. One thing’s for sure: She stayed true to herself when it came to hair and makeup. The actress’ mane was kept free and down, and her eyes — like Olivia Wilde's and Kate Mara's — were strong.

"Bold eyes are always the priority for Sarah," says makeup artist Leslie Lopez, "She loves a good, strong eye and loves using Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Tuxedo ($29)," which is a matte black. Lopez used it to line Parker’s peepers, adding brightening pops of metallics with the Rosegold and Gilded Gold shades. A few coats of Rimmel London Extra Super Lash Mascara ($8.50) finished things off.

Ultimately, although the actress has a predilection for smoky eyes, Lopez says the theme came into play in deciding the look. "She loves to stick with the theme, so we took a look at her ensemble — which I fell in love with — and hair and found a makeup look that complements all of it," says the makeup artist. "I would say it’s chic, thoughtful and fearless."
