"It's very festive and so Sarah," says stylist Karla Welch of the cocktail dress.

Sarah Paulson arrived in a silver sequined Carolina Herrera dress at Sunday's Emmy Awards.

The look is straight from the designer's New York Fashion Week runway show last week and features "the big puff sleeves we are into," says longtime stylist Karla Welch. "We thought, 'You’re coming back the winner, presenting in your category. We can't compete with last year's Prada.' And it felt amazing to wear a cocktail dress, it's very festive and so Sarah."

Last year, Paulson, who wowed in an embellished Prada gown, won best actress in a limited series for her role as Marcia Clark on FX's The People v. O.J. Simpson.

The 69th annual Emmy Awards, hosted by Stephen Colbert, airs live on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 5 p.m. PT (8 p.m. ET) on CBS.
