Talk about saving the best for last. As the year’s red carpet season winds down, there was no time like the E! People’s Choice Awards Show in Santa Monica on Sunday night for Sarah Silverman to whip out a Rhea Costa look that she and stylist Micah Schifman had been saving for the right moment.

“It’s a glamorous and more serious look, and that’s not something we would normally go for for the People’s Choice Awards,” explains Schifman of the show which tends to draw a wide swath of celebrities across television, film and social media — and an equally diverse number of fashion statements (think Kim Kardashian in an optical illusion vintage Jean Paul Gaultier dress).  “But because of all the different styles and things people were going to be wearing on the red carpet, we thought it might lighten the look up, and not make it so serious.”

The gown in question? An elegant black silk crepe gown with gold appliques at the shoulders and cuffs, by Romanian label Rhea Costa. “It’s very lightweight, very comfortable and she loved wearing it. Comfort is key for Sarah, or she’s not going to enjoy herself.”

It’s also why the Wreck-It Ralph star opted to pair the look with a low-heeled black nubuck Aldo heel. “Once we find a great heel for Sarah, we stick to it for a few looks," says Schifman.

Silverman, one of the evening's presenters, received her own major accolade last week: a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
