Sarah Silverman's 'Jash Presents Rubberhead' Finds New Home
The comedy special was originally meant to stream on Xbox
When Microsoft announced that it was shuttering Xbox Entertainment Studios in July, several shows were left in limbo. One of those, Jash Presents Rubberhead, has found new life on Vimeo.
The streamer announced Tuesday that Rubberhead, a variety show hosted by Sarah Silverman, is now available to stream exclusively through Vimeo on Demand for a one-time $5 download fee.
"We are thrilled to give this show a home on Vimeo on Demand," said Greg Clayman, general manager of audience networks at Vimeo. "Sarah Silverman and the team at Jash are some of funniest people in the industry today."
Jash, a YouTube comedy channel formed in 2013, showcases the works of partners Silverman, Michael Cera, Reggie Watts and duo Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim. It originally had a pilot commitment from Xbox Studios to produce a series of variety shows with rotating hosts to stream on the gaming console. But the studio's closure came just days before the first show, hosted by Silverman, was scheduled to tape. At the time a Jash spokeswoman said the special would continue to tape and would find a new home.
This first 45-minute special features skits from a lineup of comedians handpicked by Silverman. They include Seth Rogan, Nathan Fielder, Tig Notaro and the rapper 2 Chainz.
"The idea behind Rubberhead is a new type of comedy experience — a no-holds-barred show without the middleman," said creator and executive producer Daniel Kellison. "What you see is the comedy created wholly by the artist, without interference from executives or networks or standards and practices. We put our full trust in our artist partners. Nothing is off-limits."
Added co-executive producer Mickey Meyer: "Rubberhead encapsulates what JASH set out to do — give the power back to the comedians and create meaningful, unfiltered and digital-first comedic content for both our audience and the talent themselves. Vimeo is doing an amazing job of helping creators to further that notion."
