Sarasota Film Society founder dies

Richard Morris also launched Cine-World Film Festival

Richard Morris, who with his wife founded the Sarasota Film Society, died Feb. 17 at his Florida home. He was 78.

Richard and Susan Morris also launched the Cine-World Film Festival, which will celebrate its 21st edition in November, and owned two movie theaters in the area.

The Morrises founded the nonprofit Sarasota Film Society in 1984, and as a booker, screener and distributor of classic, independent and international films, Richard was a highly visible promoter of the arts in the community.

In addition to Susan, his wife of 50 years, Morris is survived by daughter Leslie Godwin, son-in-law Steve Samuels and two grandchildren.
