Sasha Pieterse, Alex Saxon to Star in 'Coin Heist' From Adaptive Studios
The film is adapted from the YA novel published by Adaptive Books.
Adaptive Studios has wrapped production on the first film to emerge from its publishing banner.
Coin Heist stars Sasha Pieterse (Pretty Little Liars), Alex Saxon (The Fosters) and social media stars Alexis G. Zall and Jay Walker as students at a Philadelphia prep school who become criminals during a class trip to the U.S. Mint. The hacker, the slacker, the athlete and the perfect student, they band together to attempt the impossible.
Adaptive Books, the publishing arm of Adaptive, acquired the project when it was an unproduced screenplay by William Osborn in the Miramax Films vault and brought on YA author Elisa Ludwig to adapt the screenplay into a novel that was published in June 2014. Emily Hagins (My Sucky Teen Romance) was then hired to develop the novel into a new screenplay. She is also directing the film.
"I'm a huge fan of heist movies," said Hagins. "When Adaptive sent me the book, I fell in love with the story and the teen characters immediately."
Added Adaptive partner Marshall Lewy: "This film is a true representation of our mission as a studio. Being able to breathe new life into abandoned projects and bring them to new audiences across multiple platforms is core to what we do."
Coin Heist is being produced by Lewy, TJ Barrack, Anne Clements and Claire Skowronek. It is being executive produced by Marc Joubert, Perrin Chiles and Sarah Ullman.
Adaptive Studios, the producer behind HBO's Project Greenlight, has made a push into digital content with the launch of The Runner for Verizon's go90. The studio is also behind DC Trip, a film produced with Van Toffler's Gunpowder & Sky and Bona Fide Productions. Adaptive Books has released 10 novels since launch.
