Sat.1 scores with two soccer tournaments

Champions League, UEFA Cup rights secured

COLOGNE, Germany -- In a bid to boost ratings at its Berlin flagship channel Sat.1, Pan-European broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 has picked up the German free TV rights to two of Europe's most-watched soccer tournaments: the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Cup.

The deal, announced Thursday, gives ProSiebenSat.1 rights for the 2009-12 seasons and includes all Internet, mobile TV and VOD rights for the matches.

In a separate deal, pay TV group Premiere extended its agreement with UEFA, taking German pay TV rights for the Champions League and UEFA Cup through 2012.
