News of the pair's departure comes one day after Brooks Wheelan, another freshman featured player, announced that he would not be returning for Season 40 with a tweet that read, "FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT."

Also confirmed as not returning is Nasim Pedrad, who joined the show in 2009. Pedrad will next appear in Fox sitcom Mulaney.

Still in the mix are Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney, whose digital shorts never quite filled the void left by Andy Samberg and his Lonely Island buddies, writer-turned-performer Mike O'Brien, Sasheer Zamata and new Weekend Update anchor Colin Jost, who also serves as the show's head writer since Seth Meyers' departure.
