Sawhney elevated at ESPN Star Sports

NEW DELHI -- ESPN Star Sports Asia has tapped Manu Sawhney as ESS Asia managing director. He assumes the post immediately, replacing Jamie Davis, who has resigned, the company said Wednesday.

Singapore-based ESS is a joint venture of ESPN International and News Corp.'s STAR.

Sawhney previously was ESS Asia executive vp of programming and marketing. Davis, who joined ESS in 2005, will continue to serve as a consultant to the company.

In a joint statement, ESPN International managing director Russell Wolff and Star CEO Paul Aiello said: "Manu's background and experience in sports broadcasting is unmatched ... The board is confident that, under Manu's leadership and with the company's strong management team, ESPN Star Sports will continue to grow."

Sawhney joined New Delhi-based ESS India in 1996 as a marketing manager and was promoted to ESPN India managing director in 1999.
