SBIFF picks six

Fest to honor actors including Viola Davis, Michael Shannon

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival will honor six actors who have distinguished themselves with their performances this year with its second annual Virtuosos Award.

The recipients are Viola Davis ("Doubt"), Rosemarie DeWitt ("Rachel Gettting Married"), Sally Hawkins ("Happy-Go-Lucky"), Richard Jenkins ("The Visitor"), Melissa Leo ("Frozen River") and Michael Shannon ("Revolutionary Road").

The award presentation will be held Jan. 28 at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara as part of a tribute, produced by Dana Morrow.

"Each of these virtuosos have dazzled us with some of the most unexpected, scene-stealing, heart-breaking, uncompromising, fearless and startling performances of the year," SBIFF executive director Roger Durling said.
