Scacchi pays visit to 'Brideshead'

CANNES -- Greta Scacchi has been added to the already impressive cast for the big-screen adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's "Brideshead Revisited," directed by Julian Jarrold.

Scacchi is lined up to play Lord Marchmain's lover. The movie, which begins shooting initially on location in the U.K. at the beginning of June before moving to Venice and Morocco, already counts Emma Thompson, Michael Gambon, Ben Whishaw, Matthew Goode and Hayley Atwell in its all-star cast.

Repped here by financier and sales house HanWay Films, the screenplay by Andrew Davies and Jeremy Brock is developed through Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae's Ecosse Films production banner. Bernstein and Rae are producing with British producer Kevin Loader ("The Oxford Murders").

Miramax Films has North American rights.

The movie is set in the years before World War II, when Oxford student Charles Ryder gets entangled with the Marchmains, a seductive but troubled family of aristocrats.

Whishaw plays the alcoholic Sebastian, and Atwell his enigmatic sister Julia, between whom Charles (Goode) is caught in a forbidden love triangle.

Gambon will play the dissolute patriarch Lord Marchmain, and Thompson his devout and controlling wife.
