Scanbox takes stake in Paradox

COPENHAGEN -- Scanbox Entertainment, a leading independent film distributor in the Nordic region, on Wednesday announced that it has acquired a share of Paradox Holding AS, owner of one of Norway's top film production houses.

Scanbox has been associated with the movie, tv and commercials production house since 2002.

A slate of six features and two children's film franchises are in development at Paradox, with the first two features -- Erik Poppe's "The Unseen" and Annette Sjursen's "Pax" -- going into production in 2007.

Paradox toppers Finn Gjerdrum, Stein Kvae and Erik Poppe remain as producers with the company, while Scanbox duo Jim Frazee and Mads Peter Ole Olsen will continue to act as executive producers on Paradox's feature films.

"It is in line with the Scanbox philosophy to focus more on local-language films and invest in and support the talents that are emerging as well as established in the Nordic countries," said Joni Sighvatsson, the Los Angeles-based producer and chairman of Scanbox. "Paradox fits that model extremely well and we feel lucky to be associated with filmmakers of that caliber, which we know are leaders in their local markets, but also have the talent and ability to reach beyond that market given the right resources."
