Schrader to head Berlin jury

Writer-director Paul Schrader, whose collaborations with Martin Scorsese produced "Taxi Driver," "Raging Bull" and "The Last Temptation of Christ," will serve as president of the 2007 Berlin International Film Festival jury, organizers said Thursday (HR 1/12).

Schrader, whose directing credits include "American Gigolo" and "Affliction," will be joined on the jury next month by "Temptation" star Willem Dafoe.

Dafoe, who also worked with Schrader on 2002's "Auto Focus," has starred in such films as "Platoon," "Mississippi Burning," "The English Patient" and 2004 blockbuster "Spider-Man."

Also slotted for a jury seat is Mexican star Gael Garcia Bernal. The star of "The Motorcycle Diaries" and "Y Tu Mama Tambien" was seen last year in the Berlinale competition entry "The Science of Sleep."

Rounding out this year's jury is German actor Mario Adorf, best known for roles in "The Tin Drum" and Rainer Werner Fassbinder's "Lola"; Palestinian writer-director-actress Hiam Abbass, most recently seen in Steven Spielberg's "Munich"; Hong Kong film producer Nansun Shi ("Infernal Affairs"); and Danish film editor Molly Malene Stensgaard, who has worked on most of Lars von Trier's films, including "Dancer in the Dark," "Dogville" and "Manderlay."
