Schweiger, Boll going 'Far' together

TORONTO -- German star Til Schweiger has signed on to star in Uwe Boll's latest computer game-to-movie project, "Far Cry," Canadian producer Brightlight Pictures said Friday.

The $25 million screen adaptation of Ubisoft's "Far Cry" game will see Schweiger play the lead role of Jack Carver, a freelance mariner who battles mercenaries and an evil scientist on a Pacific Northwest island.

There was no other word on casting.

Boll, who is co-producing "Far Cry" with Vancouver-based Brightlight Pictures, will shoot the movie in and around Vancouver beginning June 13.

Previous Boll and Brightlight collaborations include "House of the Dead," Christian Slater starrer "Alone in the Dark" and the upcoming North American releases: "Postal," "Seed" and "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale," starring Jason Statham, John Rhys-Davies, Ray Liotta, Leelee Sobieski and Burt Reynolds.
