Sci Fi moves 'Flash' forward in U.K., Benelux

LONDON -- Sci Fi channel has picked up U.K. and Benelux rights for pay TV, VOD and Internet to the new RHI Entertainment-produced "Flash Gordon" series, it was announced Tuesday.

The channel, which picked up the hugely successful "Heroes" last year at the Los Angeles Screenings, is hoping to replace the show in its lineup after the second season of the hit series was snapped up by the BBC.

In a deal brokered by head of acquisitions Monica Iglesias and RHI Entertainment's president of production and distribution Joel Denton, the contemporary retelling of the much-loved intergalactic adventure will be a key part of Sci Fi's early 2008 primetime lineup.

Sci Fi programming director Jon Farrar said the series will be "bold, sexy and smart."

"The series will be totally relevant to today's society without losing the fantasy appeal of the original, intergalactic story," he said.
