Score Media revs deal for Champ races

TORONTO -- Canadian broadcaster Score Media said Friday that it will broadcast 10 of 16 races from the 2007 Champ Car World Series as part of a multiplatform deal with the U.S.-based car racing circuit.

Champ Car, formerly known as the CART series, previously inked a deal for ABC/ESPN to air some races in the U.S. this year, before becoming the exclusive U.S. broadcaster in 2008.

Like ESPN, Score Media will begin airing Champ Car races April 22 when the circuit hits Houston, before race dates in China, Holland, Belgium, Australia, Mexico and three in Canada this summer.

The Canadian broadcast package includes the online and mobile rights to race highlights and features.

The Score recently aired the NCAA men's basketball tournament, including game highlights and features on its Web site and Score Mobile Video offering to wireless phone subscribers.

The Champ Car series formerly aired on the Sports Network, a rival Canadian sports channel that, in January, signed an agreement for the exclusive Canadian TV rights to 35 NASCAR Busch Series races, beginning with the inaugural race Aug. 4 in Montreal.
