The Score to provide CanWest's scores

TORONTO -- Canadian broadcaster CanWest Global Communications on Monday said that domestic headline sports channel the Score will supply sports coverage to its Global News Ontario daily newscasts in Ontario.

The move follows CanWest Global upping its stake in Score parent Score Media to 26.5%.

As part of theagreement, the Score will provide sport updates to Global's morning, noon, suppertime and late-night news broadcasts.

The Global News telecasts also will feature the Score's sports ticker for up-to-the-minute scores and odds for major sports.

Last September, CanWest Global chose not to purchase a controlling stake in Score Media after it put itself on the auction block, but did raise its minority holding.

Farming out its sports coverage for its Global Television newscasts in Ontario is the latest cost-saving move by parent CanWest Global, which recently said it will create four "superstations" in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Toronto to coordinate its national news delivery, with the loss of 200 jobs.
