Scott's Pictures Acquires Vanessa Hudgens Drama 'Gimme Shelter'

Disney Girls Gone Wild

“It’s like a bomb, and I’m detonating it!” admits notoriously edgy indie auteur Harmony Korine (Trash Humpers) of the intent behind casting Disney princesses Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens (pictured) in his just-wrapped "Spring Breakers."

The drama also counts Rosaria Dawson and Brendan Fraser among its cast.

Scott’s Pictures, the newly launched label by Scott Steindorff, has acquired worldwide right to Gimme Shelter, a drama starring Vanessa Hudgens.

Shelter is the second project on the slate, followed by the high-profile title Jane’s Got a Gun, which THR broke in May as a hot sales title that has Natalie Portman attached to star and Lynne Ramsey directing.

Shelter, which also stars Rosario Dawson, James Earl Jones, Ann Dowd, Stephanie Szostak and Brendan Fraser, recently finished shooting and is in post-production.

STORY: 'Jane's Got a Gun' Lands Financing

The story centers on a pregnant, homeless teen (Hudgens) who flees her abusive mother and seeks out her biological father. He first takes her in but then throws her out when she refuses to abort her child. She moves to a shelter where she forms a family unit with other girls.

Ronald Krauss, a video and commercials helmer, is making his feature writing and directing debut. The movie is based on Kathy DiFiore, a woman whose work with shelters drew international recognition.

Krauss, Jeff Rice and Joshua Amir are producers on the movie. Steindorff wil now act as an executive producer while Stone Village’s Dylan Russell will be a co-producer.

The pic will be screened for domestic distributors later this month.
