Scribe schemes on 'Scoundrels' scam

Steve Pink is in on the con.

MGM has hired the writer-director to script a remake of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." Robert Simonds is producing.

The original "Scoundrels," released in 1988 and directed by Frank Oz, was itself a remake of the 1964 film "Bedtime Story," which starred Marlon Brando and David Niven. "Scoundrels" starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine as mirror-opposite con men competing to scam money from an American woman and banish each other from their South of France hunting ground, Beaumont-sur-Mer.

Pink, who is repped by Endeavor, co-wrote "High Fidelity" and "Grosse Pointe Blank" and most recently directed the college comedy "Accepted." (partialdiff)
