Sean Bean Boards New U.K. Drama 'The Frankenstein Chronicles'
The 'Game of Thrones' star will play Inspector John Marlott in ITV's upcoming reimaging of the gothic classic
U.K. channel ITV has announced new six-part crime drama The Frankenstein Chronicles, a reimaging of Mary Shelley's classic novel.
Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings star Sean Bean will play Inspector John Marlott in the series, set in London in 1827 and created by Emmy-nominated director Benjamin Ross (The Young Poisoner's Handbook) and writer Barry Langford.
"The Frankenstein Chronicles is an epic reworking of one of literature and cinema's most iconic stories," said ITV's director of drama Steve November, in a statement. "We're delighted to be working with Benjamin Ross, Barry Langford and the team at Rainmark Films with the vision to bring Mary Shelley's Frankenstein back to life."
Rainmark Films' David Tanner (Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight) and Carol Moorhead (Line of Duty, Wodehouse in Exile) will produce the series. Executive producers are Rainmark Films' Tracey Scoffield (Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight, Dirty Pretty Things) and Frank Doelger (Game of Thrones, Rome).
Ross will direct the series, to be shot in Northern Ireland in January 2015, with funding from Northern Ireland Screen.
"Marlott's investigation takes him into the dark corners of Regency London," said Benjamin. "He discovers an underworld of prostitution, drug smuggling, body-snatching and murder for profit. The rational evidence points first one way and then another as he contemplates a frightening alternate scenario."
