Penn joins a voice cast that includes Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad and Danny McBride.

Oscar winner, Rolling Stone journalist and, now, a bird.

Sean Penn has joined the cast of Sony Pictures animation Angry Birds. He will (sort of) be lending his voice to a large red bird named Terrence, who only communicates in grunts and growls.

The animated feature is based on the popular game of the same name and also features the voice talents of Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, and Danny McBride.

Musical talents Blake Shelton and Charli XCX will also be lending their pipes to the project, as a pig and a bird, respectively.

Penn's next project, the African drama The Last Face with Charlize Theron and Javier Bardem, is set to screen at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film will be flying into theaters May 20.
