SET India sweeps Promax's Asia nods


SINGAPORE -- Sony's operation in India swept the board at the annual Promax/BDA Asia Awards in Singapore on Thursday, winning 15 awards, including nine golds in 12 of the 44 categories.

This is the second year that channels from Sony Entertainment Television India's stable have topped the winners list of the regional promo and design awards.

This year's SET wins included golds for best sports promo, sports campaign, children's program campaign, entertainment/variety promo, and interactive promo on three SET channels.

MTV Networks won nine awards this year, eight of which went to the network's Indian channel. The ninth, a silver, went to regional service MTV Asia for best integrated marketing campaign.

Fox International channels took home eight trophies, including both gold and silver for best drama promo and drama campaign. Promos for "CSI" won gold in both categories.

Seven awards went to BBC Worldwide Global Channels, including a gold for original logo design for the newly launched BBC Knowledge.

HBO Asia, Discovery Networks Asia and Singapore's free-TV broadcaster MediaCorp. won five awards each.

Entries for this year's Promax|BDA Asia awards were up 8% to 1406, Promax/BDA Asia director Monica Wong said.

The awards ceremony was held at the end of the two-day annual conference, themed "Convergence: Connect, Innovate, Evolve."

Speakers included the U.S.-based Cimarron Group's Geoff Calnan, who opened the two-day event Wednesday by saying the entertainment business may be changing, but the principles of creativity were constant.
