SETI CEO Dasgupta resigns

Leaves SETI after 14 years

NEW DELHI -- Sony Pictures Television International said Friday that the CEO of Mumbai-based Sony Entertainment Television India’s holding company Multi Screen Media Private Ltd. Kunal Dasgupta has resigned.

“Kunal has amazing relationships with India's top directors, producers and actors, plus close ties to the cricket world. While his experience and leadership will be greatly missed, we are fortunate that Multi Screen has strong existing management and the business is strategically focused,” SPTI president, international networks, Andy Kaplan said.

Multi Screen Media chairman Man Jit Singh has been appointed interim CEO until a replacement is found.

Dasgupta was one of the first employees at Sony Entertainment Television India when it launched 14 years ago with flagship Hindi entertainment channel SET. Earlier, Dasgupta held executive positions at Mattel Toys India.

Among the highlights of his career at SET India, Dasgupta launched other channels to expand the network such as cricket-movies hybrid channel SET PIX which last year premiered the Indian Premier League cricket series, considered one of the most valuable TV properties in India.

Dasgupta also played a significant role in the formation of The One Alliance, a cable distribution joint venture between Multi Screen and Discovery Communications India that distributes 18 channels throughout the sub-continent such as Animal Planet, Discovery Travel and Living, MTV and VH1 among others.

Dasgupta did not return telephone requests for an interview.
