'Sex' duo suit up for 'Hot Tub' trip

The writer-director pair behind the road-trip comedy "Sex Drive" are shifting gears — sort of.

Sean Anders and John Morris are in final negotiations to direct "Hot Tub Time Machine," a high-concept male comedy that's set up at MGM.

Jason Heald is writing the screenplay, which revolves around a group of adult male friends who, bored with their lives, visit a hot tub where they once partied. After knocking a few back, they find it can transport them to a time two decades earlier and to their younger, raunchier selves.

Matt Moore is producing, while Luke Ryan and Cale Boyter are overseeing for MGM.

"Sex Drive" underperformed at the boxoffice for Summit, but the CAA-repped Anders and Morris remain in demand. The pair also are attached to write a "Meatballs" reboot for Lionsgate. (partialdiff)
