'Shame' on Uni: Picks up Klein pitch

Universal Pictures is doing the "Walk of Shame."

The studio has picked the pitch from Jessi Klein for Stuber/Parent to produce.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, "Shame" is a romantic comedy about the lives of a group of young singles living in New York.

Holly Bario is the Universal exec on the project. At Stuber/Parent, Becky Sloviter is overseeing for Parent.

"Shame" marks Klein's first foray into the feature world. She recently sold a comedy script to NBC through Regency TV with a penalty attached. Jill Soloway will executive produce the project.

The script, which Klein would star in, revolves around a woman who works at an Oprah-like self-help show. The woman thinks she has life all figured out and looks down on the show's guests until she is dumped by her boyfriend, sending her into the realization that she needs all the help she can get. One conceit is that the show's host is never seen, with plenty of focus on the staff and its daily guests.

Klein is a former development executive at Comedy Central in New York who did stand-up comedy on the side. She broke out at the Aspen Comedy Festival and was an on-air correspondent for "The Showbiz Show With David Spade."

Klein is repped by UTA and Mosaic.
