Gary Newman and Dana Walden announce promotions in the department, further unifying the network and the studio.

The line between the studio and the network continues to blur at Fox, with Fox Television Group chairmen and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman on Wednesday announcing a new role for 20th Century Fox TV casting topper Sharon Klein.

Klein, a 15-year veteran of the studio, will now lead casting efforts at 20th TV, cable-centric Fox 21 Television Studios and the Fox Broadcasting Company under the title of executive vp of casting for Fox TV Group. Additionally, seven-year FBC staffer Tess Sanchez has been elevated to executive vp of casting at the network.

“We wanted to approach the casting of our shows from a single, unified perspective so that all our FTG divisions are reaping the benefits of our extraordinary casting teams, and there is no better person to lead our efforts than Sharon, whom we have deeply relied upon at the studio for over fifteen years,” Walden and Newman said in a statement. “She is incredibly talented, enormously creative and beloved by showrunners, performers and executives alike. This promotion both recognizes the extraordinary contribution she has made and positions the programming of Fox Television Group for even greater success in the years ahead.”

Of Sanchez, the pair added, “We’re also pleased to announce that Tess has been elevated to executive vice president of casting for the network in recognition of her outstanding work. She’s a spectacular executive and will continue to be an invaluable partner to Sharon as we identify and attract the best acting talent to this company.”

Klein's work in casting has earned her an Emmy and notoriety for putting together such famous ensembles as Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, Glee, New Girl and Homeland. Most recently she has led efforts on Empire, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and Tuesday night's breakout This Is Us. Klein worked as an independent casting director prior to her work at the studio, leading efforts for HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon and Jeremy Piven vehicle Cupid.

With Fox since 2009, where she was promoted to lead of network talent efforts in 2011, Sanchez has overseen casting for Empire, Grease Live!, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Gotham and The Mindy Project. She also came from independent casting, though she did have a long stint at The WB which later transitioned to The CW.

It has been two years since Walden and Newman took lead of both the studio and the network with the formation of the Fox TV Group. Other executives who now have purview over the unifying effort include marketing and communications topper Shannon Ryan and senior vp Rachel Webber.
