Shelter PR Expanding Into Awards and Events

The company has hired Jerry Rojas to run the new division.

Former Focus Features executive Jerry Rojas has joined Shelter PR, the firm run by partners Cara and Christine Tripicchio and Marla Farrell.

Rojas will head the company's newly launched awards and events division, acting as executive vp. Based in Shelter's Los Angeles office, he will build and run the new division and, according to the firm, provide expertise to film, TV and streaming clients.

Shelter is expanding its reach, and Rojas' hire follows the establishment of a film and television division that is run by Alicia Ramirez Wyld.

Rojas has spent the last 10 years at Focus, most recently acting as senior director of awards and events. He oversaw the company's special events, premieres, festival and convention activations, as well as awards and tastemaker screening programs. He has worked closely with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, AMPAS, BAFTA and the industry's leading guilds on the studio's behalf. He has also secured sponsorships and initiated community engagement and outreach programs.

He most recently worked on campaigns for Victoria and Abdul, Darkest Hour and Phantom Thread. Among other campaigns under his belt are films such as Loving, Dallas Buyers Club, The Theory of Everything and The Kids Are All Right.

In a statement, the partners called Rojas "the perfect person to grow our awards and events department. With his strong industry relationships, he is tapped into the changing landscape in entertainment and in the culture. He understands how powerful it can be to marry events with word of mouth, community-building and social media."

Before his time at Focus, Rojas worked at Film Independent as part of the sponsorship team.
