Shepherd takes fifth on ABC's 'View'

NEW YORK -- And then there were five.

Sherri Shepherd was announced Monday morning as a co-host of "The View," ABC's late-morning chatfest. Shepherd will replace Star Jones Reynolds, who left the show last year.

Shepherd, an actress ("Beauty Shop" and "Less Than Perfect") and comedian, will join executive producer/twice-weekly co-host Barbara Walters, newly installed moderator Whoopi Goldberg and co-hosts Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

ABC had strongly hinted last week that it would soon have a co-host to replace Reynolds and before Hasselbeck goes on maternity leave in November.

Shepherd is no stranger to "The View." She was part of the show's tryout period this season to search for a new co-host, and she has been a guest host of the program 23 times.
