Shimizu to head Venice 3D jury

'Grudge' director to lead judging on line-up

TOKYO -- Japanese horror master Takashi Shimizu (“The Grudge,” “Ju-on”) will head the jury for the 3D award at Venice this year, the second time the section will run at the fest after debuting last year.
Despite La Biennale beginning in a couple of days, on September 1, festival organizers said they were unable to announce the competition line-up for this year’s 3D award.
The Persol 3D award, won in its inaugural edition by “The Hole,” will be presented at Sala Perla on September 10, the evening before the closing ceremony.
Shimizu’s “Shock Labyrinth,” Asia’s first 3D film, will be screened out of competition at Venice.
In other Venice news, festival director Marco Muller issued a message of condolence following the death last week of Japanese animator, Satoshi Kon, whose “Paprika” featured in 63rd edition of the fest.
