Shine Group CEOs Mark and Carl Fennessy Take on Additional Roles

Mark will become President of Shine Network; Carl becomes CEO of Shine USA.

SYDNEY -- Shine Australia joint CEOs Mark and Carl Fennessy are expanding their influence within the Shine Group, taking on the roles of president, Shine Network and CEO of Shine USA, respectively, the company announced Wednesday.

Carl Fennessy, as CEO of Shine USA, will be responsible for the ongoing commercial strategy of the company, reporting to CEO Shine Group America's Emiliano Calemzuk. He will relocate to Shine Group America’s headquarters in Los Angeles later in 2011 while keeping a regular presence in Sydney.

Mark Fennessy’s newly-created role of President, Shine Network, means he will have oversight of key Shine Group formats such as MasterChef, The Biggest Loser and One Born Every Minute, working with the London-based internal unit responsible for the development, acceleration and editorial stewardship of those formats. Continuing to operate from Sydney, he will also be responsible for new co-production relationships in countries where there is currently no Shine Group presence.

Both will retain their current roles as joint CEOs of Shine Australia and New Zealand, and will be supported by an expanded management team here, recruiting for which is currently underway.

The Fennessys revamped Shine’s Masterchef format for Network Ten Australia three years ago, while they were running FremantleMedia Australia, turning it into a ratings juggernaut. The finales of the first two seasons broke rating records as the most-watched, non-sporting event on Australian TV ever. Shine will take over production of Masterchef from FMA next year, while also working on its newly-created home makeover format, The Renovators, as well as The Biggest Loser, Australia’s Next Top Model, The Voice, Wife Swap Australia and The Family.
