Shine, Zodiak ink reciprocal first-look deal

Will allow both companies to produce each other's formats

COLOGNE, Germany -- Shine Group and Zodiak Rights, two of the leading indie TV production houses worldwide, have signed a deal which see the two companies produce each other's formats in Germany and Italy.

Under the reciprocal first-look agreement, Shine's German operation will produce new Zodiak formats such as "Deal with It" and "Are You Fitter than a Pensioner?" for German-speaking territories. Zodiak Rights' format division Magnolia will do the same for titles from Shine's catalogue -- which includes "MasterChef" and "The Biggest Loser" -- for the Italian TV market.

Zodiak has it's own production company in Germany -- Munich-based Yellow Bird -- but the division focuses on drama, not non-fiction, production.

The Shine-Zodiak tie up follows an output deal Shine Australia signed with Zodiak Rights earlier this year.
