ShoWest to celebrate Mamet

David Mamet will receive the ShoWest Award of Excellence in Filmmaking at the convention's Opening Day Luncheon on Tuesday at the Paris hotel in Las Vegas.

"His films, such as 'State and Main,' 'House of Games,' 'The Winslow Boy' and 'The Spanish Prisoner,' represent a high standard of artistic dignity," said Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the event.

This year's luncheon focuses on the specialty and independent film market.

Mamet's latest film, "Redbelt," which he wrote and directed, will screen Monday at the convention's Evening of Independent Films. Set for release May 2 by Sony Pictures Classics, the film, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, is set in the fight world on Los Angeles' Westside.

ShoWest, which runs Monday-Thursday, is produced by the Nielsen Entertainment Group, a division of Nielsen Business Media, parent company of The Hollywood Reporter.
