Sienna Films and Breakout Films Pact on 'The Heretics' TV Drama

The Canada-French 12-part co-production about heretic sisters in France who fight the Catholic Church 800 years ago will be shot in the second half of 2012 in France and Hungary.

TORONTO - Canadian indie producer Sienna Films is set to shoot the 12-part period drama The Heretics with French partner Breakout Films in France and Hungary in the second half of 2012.

The France-Canada co-production will portray heretic sisters in France fighting the Catholic Church 800 years ago.

Giacomo Battiato will direct The Heretics using a screenplay he co-wrote with Canadian screenwriter Laura Phillips.

There’s no word on casting.

Production is set to run from June to December 2012.

The Heretics is produced by Jennifer Kawaja and Julia Sereny at Sienna Films, who co-produced the ABC/Global Television drama Combat Hospital, and Georges Campana at Breakout Films.

Campana’s recent TV credits include the British mini-series The Promise and L’infiltre, which was directed by Battiato.

The Heretics has been sold to the Canadian pay TV networks The Movie Network and Movie Central.
