Named head of international marketing operations

LONDON -- Universal Pictures International, the studio's overseas releasing arm, has upped Simon Hewlett to run its marketing operations based in the British capital.

President, international for Universal Pictures David Kosse announced Hewlett's elevation.

Hewlitt will oversee all of the marketing functions for Universal's international theatrical releases including creative advertising, media planning and buying, promotions and publicity.

He will report to Kosse and work closely with evp of distribution Duncan Clark on all strategic marketing ideas surrounding international theatrical releases.

Hewlitt joined Universal in 2006 as managing director, U.K. and Eire and was part of a team including Kosse and Clark who helped start Universal Pictures International in 2007 when the company decided to separate from United International Pictures (UIP).

A successor for his old role is being sought.

Prior to Universal, Hewlett was Twentieth Century Fox's managing director of U.K. theatrical operations for four years.
