Singapore agencies boost sports funding

Fund will focus on multiplatform, new media content

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Sports Council and the Media Development Authority have established a S$1 million ($680,000) sports media fund to boost local sports content creation for domestic and international markets, the two government agencies said Monday.

The SSC-MDA Sports Media Fund will focus on multiplatform content and particularly content for digital media.

The announcement comes two days after the International Olympic Committee's coordination team said preparations were on track in Singapore for the first Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2010.

SSC sports marketing group boss Kelven Tan said that the fund will provide incentives for companies to "use sports as a content genre for growth."

First-round applications are due by the end of November.
