Singapore group launches ani fund with FME

Int'l Animation Fund covers all formats, including series, films

Singapore is getting quite animated.

The government-backed Media Development Authority is launching an International Animation Fund at MIPTV in partnership with FremantleMedia Enterprises.

The fund will solicit applications from all over the world for animation content in any format -- series, telepics, theatrical movies -- and the MDA will co-invest up to $3.5 million for each qualifying project.

FremantleMedia Enterprises is MDA's partner in the initiative and will rep the chosen projects as worldwide distributor.

"We look forward to co-creating intellectual property in and by Singapore's animation community in partnership with like-minded producers from around the world," MDA CEO Christopher Chia said.

FME global CEO David Ellender said the partnership is part of Fremantle's expanded focus on children's and family entertainment and the company's belief in "the animation resources Singapore has to deploy to the world market."

Applications for the IAF must be received by June 30, and proposed projects must have a Singapore partner.
