MediaCorp gets rights to 246 hours of anime

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's MediaCorp. has acquired 246 hours of Japanese anime in a deal that will make Singapore the first market in the world to broadcast the cartoon series on free TV in the same week as their Japanese premieres.

Company execs announced Monday that MediaCorp's free-TV channel Arts Central will air 312 half-hour anime episodes a year.

MediaCorp's MOBTV online portal will air 90 hours for $7.50 a month on its new AnimeTrix channel.
