Six projects chosen for Tribeca grants

Sloan Filmmaker Fund handing out $140,000

Six projects have been chosen by the Tribeca Film Institute to receive $140,000 in grants from the TFI Sloan Filmmaker Fund, provided by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

The fund awards grants to narrative film projects that dramatize science and technology themes or that portray scientists, engineers or mathematicians in prominent character roles.

The projects cover such topics as the great white shark ("The Devil's Teeth"), environmental disasters ("Future Weather"), the father of modern agriculture ("Haber"), astronomy ("Map of the Universe"), the story of Los Alamos ("Midnight Sun") and the end of the world ("Obselidia").

The awards will be presented April 23 at the Tribeca Film Festival's TFI Awards.
