Sky Entertainment Hires Third Commissioning Editor

Former Tiger Aspect high flier Deborah Sargeant takes up reins to ramp up series programming at Rupert Murdoch’s BSkyB.

LONDON – U.K. satcaster BSkyB is ramping up its entertainment commission team with Phil Edgar Jones, currently head of the division, hiring former Tiger Aspect executive producer Deborah Sargeant.

Jones, who oversees all entertainment series in production across all Sky’s channels, has brought Sargeant in as one of three commissioning editors, Entertainment.

Sargeant joins Antonia Hurford Jones and Jonathan Rothery in her role.

Working for series to air on Sky 1 HD, Sky Living HD, Sky Atlantic HD, Sky Arts HD and Sky Movies HD, Sargeant joins a team whose output includes established Sky shows such as Got To Dance, A League of Their Own and Love Machine.

Before joining Sky, Sargeant most recently exec produced E! Live from the Red Carpet at the 2012 BAFTAs for Monkey Kingdom as well as When Piers met Andrew Lloyd Webber (ITV1), Justin Lee Collins: Good Times (Five), Britain’s Best Brain and When Billie Met the Real Call Girl (ITV2) during her two years at British production banner Tiger Aspect.

Her series editor credits include the International Emmy winner How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? (BBC One), Gordon Ramsay’s F Word (Channel 4), Beat the Star (ITV1) and Big Brother (Channel 4).

The ramped up team aims to support Sky's pledge to bolster its investment in original British content by 50 percent over the next three years. By 2014, Sky expects to invest £600 million ($941 million) a year in British programs across its portfolio of channels.
