Sky Player coming to Xbox consoles

BSkyB, Microsoft ink deal for pay TV content

LONDON -- BSkyB and Microsoft said Thursday that millions of British Xbox users will be able to use Sky's online catch-up service Sky Player on their game consoles beginning in the fall.

The deal -- part of Sky's strategy to broaden its revenue base and reach new audiences -- will allow Xbox users with broadband-enabled consoles to access pay TV content including the Sky Movies, Sky One and MTV channels as well as on-demand sports, entertainment and movies.

Stephen Nuttall, director of Sky's commercial group, said the deal gives Xbox users more choice.

"Now Xbox owners can enjoy a wide range of TV through their console and can pick and choose the packages that are right for them," he said. "For Sky, this makes our content even more widely available and opens up a new commercial opportunity."

Pricing details will be announced closer to the launch.
