The pay TV giant's flagship channel Sky 1 announces the biggest content investment in its history.

Pay TV giant Sky has acquired ABC's The Muppets for flagship channel Sky 1.

The show is part of what Sky 1 says is its biggest programming investment in its history. "From this autumn, bolstered by the biggest investment in its history, Sky 1 will introduce an ambitious new lineup of fresh and modern entertainment for all the family," the network said Thursday.

It added: "The new range of shows underlines Sky’s commitment to make Sky 1 a go-to destination for family entertainment. This commitment is supported by a 20 percent increase in spend on new programs and, for the first time, there will be brand-new U.K. drama and comedy all year round."

The upcoming Muppets mocumentary from ABC Studios will come to Sky 1 in the U.K. and Ireland this fall season.

"The personal lives of Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo and co. will be explored as The Muppets uncovers what they really get up to at home and at work," Sky said Thursday. ‎

Said Adam MacDonald, director of Sky 1: “Get ready to see the Muppets like you’ve never seen them before – with no-holds-barred access as they prepare for their big reunion, The Muppets promises a candid look at what goes on before and after they start the music and light the lights!”

The Muppets was acquired for Sky by senior acquisitions manager Lucy Criddle.

Other shows that Sky 1 said Thursday it would air amid its content push are end-of-the-world series You, Me & The Apocalypse, starring Rob Lowe, new comedy After Hours and Karl Pilkington: The Moaning of Life.
