'Sleeping Beauty' wakes up to win

Collector's edition is top seller; 'Happening' leads rentals

It was a three-way split decision on the home entertainment charts the week ending Oct. 12. Disney's "Sleeping Beauty," all spruced up in a two-disc Platinum Edition, took the top spot on the national sales chart, while Fox's "The Happening" was the top renter and Paramount's "Iron Man" topped the Blu-ray Disc sales chart for the second consecutive week.

"Iron Man" came in a close second on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart after debuting at No. 1 the previous week with sales of 7.2 million DVDs and more than 500,000 Blu-ray Discs its first six days in stores. The actioner's first-week DVD sales tally set a record for the year, while its Blu-ray Disc sales total is an all-time high.

"Happening" debuted at No. 3 on the sales chart, edging out Sony's "You Don't Mess With the Zohan," the latest Adam Sandler comedy to hit the home entertainment market, which bowed at No. 4.

Three other new releases debuted in the top 10: Season 11 of "The Simpsons," from Fox, at No. 7; Season 2 of "30 Rock," from Universal, at No. 8; and the direct-to-video thriller "Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead," from Fox.

On Home Media Magazine's rental chart, "Zohan" debuted at No. 2 in a virtual dead heat with "Happening." The previous week's top renter, "Iron Man," slipped to No. 3.

"Sleeping Beauty" debuted at No. 2 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert Blu-ray Disc chart, with "Happening" at No. 3.
