'Slipstream' in via Strand, Sony

NEW YORK -- The Anthony Hopkins-directed feature "Slipstream," starring Hopkins, Christian Slater, John Turturro, Michael Clarke Duncan and Camryn Manheim, will be distributed domestically by Strand Releasing and on home video through Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisition Group.

The genre-mixing feature centers on a murder-mystery screenwriter (Hopkins) whose characters begin coming to life as his life blurs with his screenplay. His brain begins to implode, captured in the film through a nonlinear, hallucinogenic narrative.

Stella Arroyave and Robert Katz produced the film from Hopkins' original script, which marks his screenwriting debut. Strand plans a limited release beginning Oct. 26, followed by a Sony DVD release next year.

Hopkins recently received a special directing and acting prize for "Slipstream" at the Locarno International Film Festival.

Strand has partnered with SPWAG on several acquisitions. The company's current slate includes "Syndromes and a Century" and "Lights in the Dusk."
