Smellie to head Australian council

Former Bertelsmann exec named to three-year stint

HONG KONG -- Former Bertelsmann executive Michael Smellie has been appointed as chair of the Australian Film, Television and Radio School Council.
His appointment for a three-year term was announced Monday by Minister for the Arts Peter Garrett. Smellie replaces Peter Ivany who has completed his term at the top of the national centre for professional education and advanced training.
From 2006 to 2008 Mr Smellie was president of media development, Asia Pacific for Bertelsmann, having previously been COO for BMG worldwide and in 2004 for Sony BMG.
"Mr. Smellie brings valuable business and financial expertise to the AFTRS Council having played a significant role in the global music industry," Garrett said.
