Smelzer named publisher of the Advocate

Exec to head LGBT news magazine, Web site

Mark Smelzer has been named publisher of the Advocate, the LGBT news magazine and Web site.

In his new role, Smelzer will develop and execute strategic, multi-platform sales initiatives for new and existing clients aiming to target the LGBT consumer.

"I'm thrilled that Mark is joining Regent Media as publisher of The Advocate," said Joe Landry, senior vp and group publisher for The Advocate's parent company, Regent Media. "Mark has extensive experience in media sales and commands respect throughout the industry. As the company continues to focus on solutions based multiplatform sales opportunities, Mark will lead the charge for The Advocate."

Smelzer, who will be based in the Advocate's Los Angeles, spent the past five years as publisher of the JCK Publishing Group, and before that was associate publisher of Variety and also held posts as publisher of Buzz magazine and advertising director of the online network L90.
